Dental Laser Scanner

Finding Ultrasmall Cavities Years Earlier

Have you ever had your dentist find a cavity, place a rather large filling, and wondered why the filling has to be SO large when the cavity wasn’t there just six months earlier? The answer is that the cavity WAS there – it just wasn’t big enough to show up on a conventional X-ray. At our practice, we use a laser scanner and Midwest Caries ID™ to discover cavities years earlier, when they can be repaired with a very small filling. For many years the only ways to detect decay were the use of the explorer, X-rays, and observation. With this technology we simply scan the teeth with a special light that looks like a pen or wand. The light reflects back to the pen, and this tells us whether there is hidden decay that hasn’t shown up on an X-ray or examination. We want as much of your natural teeth kept intact as possible, and using these scanners will allow us to do so for you.
