Reducing Dental Cavities

What is Xylitol and What Does It Have to Do with Reducing Cavities?
Xylitol is a natural substance that is especially effective in combating tooth decay. It is found in fruits, berries, and vegetables, and our bodies produce 5 to 10 grams each day. Over two decades of clinical research has proven that xylitol is the best choice for a sweetener, as it does not contribute to decay. It also has been found to be helpful for allergies and is available in a nasal spray. Dental associations in Europe now promote xylitol as the preferred choice to sweeten many food and dental hygiene products. We recommend the use of xylitol for fewer cavities and even to improve upper respiratory health.

No Drill Dental Procedures

Dentistry without Drills or Needles?
The main reasons people fear going to the dentist are the sting of the needle and the vibration of the drill. We are pleased to offer our patients one of the most amazing recent advancements in dentistry, called air abrasion. This high-tech yet simple device aims tiny particles and air at the decay. It gently mists away the cavity with no pain, no vibration, and no sound! For most procedures, no needles for anesthesia or conventional drills are necessary!

Dentists Are the First Line of Defense for Elder Abuse

With the American population living longer, seniors' oral health has become an important issue, as has the widespread problem of elder abuse. Every year more than 2.5 million older Americans may be victims of elder abuse, and in some cases dentists serve as the first line of defense, according to a report in the May/June 2005 issue of General Dentistry, the clinical, peer-reviewed journal of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).

Gum Disease Treatments

Now the Good News
Once gum infection is advanced, surgery will be necessary. It is usually successful in stopping the infection and is generally covered by dental insurance plans. In milder cases, we have very effective nonsurgical methods that, together with careful daily dental hygiene, can reverse gum disease to a healthy state. These treatments also are covered by most dental insurance plans.

Implant Retained Dentures

Immediate Load Implants – Another Option

In addition to traditional implants, we are also happy to offer our patients All-on-4™ immediate load implants. With this option, you will need only four implants, which securely hold permanent dentures in place that never need to be taken out. And the best part is that you can arrive in our office with missing or unhealthy teeth and leave with beautiful, functioning teeth – all in the same day. The use of four strategically positioned implants allows for very strong support for your new teeth. Immediate load implants can withstand pressure immediately without having to wait for the bone to heal around it.

In the past when a patient lost teeth through trauma, disease, or extraction and opted to have dental implants, they would most often need to be referred to an oral surgeon. The surgeon would place the implants and send the patient back to the regular dentist to have the teeth placed on the implants. In our practice, we can place the immediate load implants and the teeth in a single visit. And the patient doesn’t have to endure six months of having a space in their mouth.

Dental Sealants For Children

Preventing Child Tooth Decay – the Easy Way!
Even with careful brushing, some of the grooves in the back teeth may be missed. As acids from foods continue to feed and build up bacteria, plaque and tartar will form on teeth. This leads to decay, and any amount of decay requires a restoration of the permanent damage.

There is a quick and easy preventive treatment that will lessen the chances of cavity development. This is how it works:
  • Each tooth is cleaned and then sterilized.
  • A thin coating of a mineralizing sealant is applied to all tooth surfaces.
  • A curing light bonds the coating to the teeth.
There are no shots given or drills used and no removal of tooth structure. It is just that easy! Children and teenagers can keep their natural teeth for a lifetime.
